Benefits of Practicing Gratitude

Dr. Christina Hibbert says there are 10 benefits of practicing gratitude. Others say there are other numbers of reasons, but this is a good list. 

  1. Be happier
  2. Be healthier
  3. Reduce negative emotions
  4. Cope better
  5. Increase self-worth
  6. Increase life’s meaning
  7. Enjoy your work more
  8. Improve your relationships
  9. Increase your spiritual connections
  10. Improve your parenting skills

She’s written a few lines about each of these 10 benefits of practicing gratitude.

1)   Be happierIn the words of David Steindl-Rast, a Benedictine monk, “The root of joy is gratefulness…. It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful.” When we are good at being grateful, we see and experience more of the “good” in life, no matter life’s circumstances. We learn to appreciate the rainbows and the storms in life, and that makes us happier.”
